The LMT at 10 degrees elevation
The LMT was successfully moved in elevation and
azimuth during the most recent mechanical and electrical
drive-system tests (15th May 2008), in preparation for the
installation of the 12 GHz holography receiver at prime
focus. Following the commissioning of the holography system,
measurements and adjustments of surface panel-segments will be
made over the inner 30-m diameter to improve the efficiency
of the telescope surface. The outer two rings of segments,
providing the full 50-m diameter surface will be installed at
a later date. Temporary panels in rings 4 and 5 are currently
in place providing the required mass to maintain the balance
and thermal environment of the telescope antenna structure.
